Don't date because you are desperate.

Don't dictate because you are smarter.
Don't demand because you are stronger.
Don't sleep around because you think you are old enough and know better.
Don't hurt your kids because loving them is harder.
Don't sell yourself, your family, or your ideals.
Don't stagnate.
Don't regress.
Don't live in the past. Time can't bring anything or anyone back.
Don't put your life on hold for possibly Mr/Mrs Right.

Learn a new skill.

Sometimes, there is no race to be won.

Don't bring another life into this world for all the wrong reasons.
To make yourself happy, pursue your passions and be the best of what you can be.
Simplify your life.
Take away the clutter.

Get rid of destructive elements: abusive friends, nasty habits, and dangerous liaisons.
Don't abandon your responsibilities but don't overdose on duty.
Don't live life recklessly without thought and feeling for your family.
Be true to yourself.

Don't keep others waiting needlessly.
Go on that trip. Don't postpone it.

In the midst of these tragedies, we united, providing aide and relating to one another as we suffered yet another blow.

Surfacing is composed of women authors who have collaborated to provide inspiration, humor, encouragement, comfort, and empathy toward the plight of all people especially people of color. This is more than an anthology; it is coffee-table conversation on Passion, Politics, and Purpose from one family member to another, told from the perspective that relates like only phenomenal women can."

I'm honored to contribute to the Katrina anthology. A lot of the material I contributed was inspired by my blogging here on Xanga. I don't define myself as a literary-type, I'm more of a marketer. Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Announces Call for Entries for 10th Anniversary Celebration

Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series is seeking films directed, written or produced by women of color. On April 13 to 15, 2007, Reel Sisters will dedicate its 10th Anniversary celebration to the heroines of the 1970s that redefined roles for Black women in cinema."From Mammies to Action Heroines: A Portrait of Badass Sisters In Cinema, Art and Politics", will explore the importance of the blaxploitation era in opening doors for many Black actresses to break stereotypes, defy the Hollywood notion of beauty and establish new standards for women as action heroes. Filmmakers are encouraged to submit films on all subjects and topics.

Filmmakers will have their original works viewed at a public screening at the Reel Sisters festival in April 2007. For further information or an application call (718) 488 1052 or (212) 865-2982. Applications are available at www.reelsisters.org.

Film shorts, animation, works-in-progress, narratives, features, and experimental works are eligible. Please include a short biography, film synopsis and self-stamped-and-addressed envelope (if you wish for your entry to be returned). Entries must be submitted on VHS format for submission-only. All entries must be received or postmarked by November 20, 2006.

Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series is sponsored by African Voices magazine and Long Island University, Media Arts Dept., Brooklyn Campus. The conference is committed to providing opportunities for women of color in the film industry. Reel Sisters is a three-day conference that provides professional workshops for emerging women filmmakers wishing to improve their craft and gain access to the resources they need to succeed in the film industry.
