Sage Advice - by Unknown

Don't date because you are desperate.
Don't marry because you are miserable.
Don't have kids because you think your genes are superior.
Don't philander because you think you are irresistible.
Don't associate with people you can't trust.
Don't cheat. Don't lie. Don't pretend.
Don't dictate because you are smarter.
Don't demand because you are stronger.
Don't sleep around because you think you are old enough and know better.
Don't hurt your kids because loving them is harder.
Don't sell yourself, your family, or your ideals.
Don't stagnate.
Don't regress.
Don't live in the past. Time can't bring anything or anyone back.
Don't put your life on hold for possibly Mr/Mrs Right.
Don't throw your life away on absolutely Mr /Mrs Wrong because your biological clock is ticking.
Learn a new skill.
Find a new friend.
Start a new career.

Sometimes, there is no race to be won.
Only a price to be paid for some of life's more hasty decisions.
To terminate your loneliness, reach out to the homeless.
To feed your nurturing instincts, care for the needy.
To fulfil your parenting fantasies, get a puppy.

Don't bring another life into this world for all the wrong reasons.
To make yourself happy, pursue your passions and be the best of what you can be.
Simplify your life.
Take away the clutter.

Get rid of destructive elements: abusive friends, nasty habits, and dangerous liaisons.
Don't abandon your responsibilities but don't overdose on duty.
Don't live life recklessly without thought and feeling for your family.
Be true to yourself.
Don't commit when you are not ready.
Don't keep others waiting needlessly.
Go on that trip. Don't postpone it.
Say those words. Don't let the moment pass.
Do what you have to, even at society's scorn.
Write poetry.
Love Deeply.
Walk barefoot.
Dance with wild abandon.
Cry at the movies.
Take care of yourself. Don't wait for someone to take care of you.
You light up your life.
You drive yourself to your destination.
No one completes you - except YOU.
It is true that life does not get easier with age. It only gets more challenging.
Don't be afraid.
Don't lose your capacity to love.
Pursue your passions.
Live your dreams.
Don't lose faith in your God.
Don't grow old. Just grow YOU.

 CHANGING SPACES

"The Greatest Lever for Change is Awareness."

Artist: Jennifer Holliday
Song: I Am Changing
Album:

Look at me
Look at me
I am changing, tryin' every way I can
I am changing, I'll be better than I am
I'm trying-to find a way to understand
But I need you, I need you-I need a hand

I am changing, seeing everything so clear now
I am changing, I'm gonna start right now, right here
I'm hoping to work it out, and I know that I can
But I need you, I need a hand

All my life I've been a fool
Who said I could do it all alone
How many good friends have I already lost
How many dark nights have I known

Walking down that wrong road, there was nothing I could find
All those years of darkness-can make a person blind
But now I can see

I am changing, tryin every way I can
I am changing, I'll be better than I am
But I need a friend-to help me start all over again,
oh-that would be just fine
I know it's gonna work out this time
'Cause this time I am-This time I am

I am changing, gonna get my life together now
I am changing, yes, I know how
I'm gonna start again, I'm leaving my past behind
I'll change my life-I'll make a vow
And nothing's gonna stop me now...hey

FROM AMAZON.COM - Surfacing....Phenomenal Women on Passion, Politics and Purpose

"Women are the backbone of civilization and the foundation of society. We give birth to humanity while nurturing mankind; all the while providing strength to survive and thrive through all diversities, obstacles and barriers placed in the way of our journey.

We are empowered by spirituality, faith, and tenacity, which forms a glue that holds us together; a bond so strong, nothing can tear it apart, not even a Hurricane named Katrina or her sister Rita. These natural disasters succeeded in crumbling dwellings, but not the human spirit; the soul is not easily broken. In the midst of these tragedies, we united, providing aide and relating to one another as we suffered yet another blow.

Surfacing is composed of women authors who have collaborated to provide inspiration, humor, encouragement, comfort, and empathy toward the plight of all people especially people of color. This is more than an anthology; it is coffee-table conversation on Passion, Politics, and Purpose from one family member to another, told from the perspective that relates like only phenomenal women can."

I'm honored to contribute to the Katrina anthology.  A lot of the material I contributed was inspired by my blogging here on Xanga.   I don't define myself as a literary-type, I'm more of a marketer.  However, when I have the opportunity to share my ponderings with a charitable cause, I do it.  Please consider purchasing "Surfacing" , and join the discussion.  These women are wonderful, passionate writers!  Click on the  image to visit the web site.  ~MH
